Welcome to The Scout History Project
The Scout History Project was conceived as a joint project between me, Ben Killen, and Tim Hall in 2005. These days, it's mostly just me. This website is a place where I can tinker with new ideas on how to present Scouting history. I'm also able to host projects and files that might otherwise be lost.
Please excuse the dust. We're working on stuff.

Projects
Here are some of the things we're working on:
-
The Scout History Wiki was originally conceived as "a Wikipedia for Scouting" in 2005, but it has never achieved its potential. I've been experimenting with some ideas, but this seems like a project so large that it will never overcome its own inertia.
-
Region V Fellowship Gallery by James Ford. This was originally hosted on oaimages.com, but was by James Ford. This was originally hosted on oaimages.com, but was lost when that site went defunct. I offered to host the files here and James was kind enough to share them.
ClothTalk
ClothTalk was a podcast that I worked on (mostly behind the scenes) in 2006 and 2007.
These recordings were thought to be lost for more than a decade, but I found a copy on an old hard drive a couple of years ago. After some internet searching, I finally found all of the old show notes archived on Bull Bill Mulrenin's blog at blog.nyoatrader.com. Bill was a guest on the show in episode 16.
You can listen to old episodes of ClothTalk in Spotify, Apple Podcast, Google Play, or wherever you find podcasts. You can also find them online at anchor.fm/clothtalk.
Where To Go Scouting (.org)
This is another idea that has been incubating for a long time. The vision for this project is to take the old "Where to Go Camping Guide" concept and drag it into the 21st century.
I worked with Devan Beitel (a friend and fellow former Coosa Lodge Chief) to prototype a full-stack web applicatoin in 2015, but we never really finished it and it continued to languish. I relaunched it recently as a stripped-down prototype built on Leaflet and comma-separated data files.
You can see the latest version of this project at wheretogoscouting.org. If you're interested in helping, send me an email!
Scouting Memories Project
The Scouting Memories Project (SMP) is a joint project between the Order of the Arrow, National Scouting Museum, and BSA Alumni. I serve the project on a national level as the oral history team lead.
